Bob Wall is a partner in the Chicago office of the international law firm Winston & Strawn and has practiced in the firm’s corporate department since 1977. He concentrates his practice in securities and mergers and acquisitions transactions. He places a high importance on understanding the economic perspectives of the participants to a transaction.

Mr. Wall’s practice has been nationally recognized and highly ranked by his peers. He was named Best Lawyers’ “2011 Chicago Mergers & Acquisitions Lawyer of the Year.” In addition, in the 2007 through 2012 issues of Chambers USA America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, he was named in the top tier (out of four tiers) for leading corporate/mergers and acquisitions lawyers in Illinois.

Mr. Wall is a respected and widely recognized leader in corporate securities. Chambers USA 2012 noted that he "is a leading name in the Chicago community, acknoledged for high high-profile public company work." Chambers USA 2008 praised Mr. Wall for being a “client-minded and practical lawyer who plays with a very significant bat.”

Mr. Wall has participated in more than 100 public offerings and 120 publicly disclosed merger and acquisition transactions while at Winston & Strawn. His clients describe him as an outstanding lawyer who pairs his “expertise and knowledge with a practical and solutions-oriented approach,” according to Chambers USA 2007.

His clients have included numerous corporations, highly successful entrepeneurs, investment banking firms, and special board committees. His clients told Chambers Global 2006 that “very little arises that he hasn’t dealt with. Wall doesn’t sit on the fence; he always gives you an answer.”

Recently, he has represented a special committee of the Board of Directors of A.O. Smith Corporation regarding an affiliated acquisition. He also represented the Board of Directors of NAVTEQ Corporation in the sale of the company to Nokia.

Year after year, Mr. Wall is consistently ranked as a “leading individual” and as one of the best corporate mergers and acquisitions attorneys in his field, according to The World’s Leading Lawyers for Business published by Chambers and Partners. Best Lawyers named Mr. Wall as Chicago’s 2011 Mergers & Acquisitions Lawyer of the Year.

He was also recently mentioned as a leading individual in the following publications: The Best Lawyers in America, Best of the Best (Euromoney); Guide to the World’s Leading Mergers & Acquisitions Lawyers; World’s Leading Corporate Governance Lawyers; and The Legal 500. In the 2007-2013 issues of Chambers USA America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, he was named in the top tier (out of four tiers) for leading corporate/mergers and acquisitions lawyers in Illinois. In 2009, he was named as an Illinois Super Lawyer.


Education

Mr. Wall attended the University of Virginia and received a B.A., with distinction, from Northwestern University in 1973. He received a J.D., summa cum laude, from Santa Clara University in 1977, where he was the comments editor for the Santa Clara Law Review.


Speeches and Publications

Mr. Wall has lectured extensively on corporate and securities topics and has appeared on CNN and the CBS Evening News. He is a frequent participant on panels for the Practising Law Institute. He also is a member of the board of editors of the Bank and Corporate Governance Law Reporter and is a past chair of Northwestern’s Garrett Institute on Securities Practice.
