Vanessa Alarcon Duvanel is an associate in the firm’s Geneva office working on international arbitration and litigation disputes, as well as Swiss Commercial and Employment law matters. Ms. Alarcon has acted as counsel for major companies and Sovereign States in various international arbitration proceedings both ad hoc and institutional (under the ICC, Swiss Rules, SCC, LCIA, AAA and UNCITRAL) over disputes arising from joint ventures, share sales and acquisitions, construction projects, commodities and distribution contracts, IP licenses and distribution agreements and governed by various procedural and substantive laws, including Swiss law, French law, English law, Russian law, New York law, and Swedish law. She also represents clients in commercial disputes before Swiss courts, setting aside proceedings before the Swiss Supreme Court, and enforcement and attachment actions around the world. Ms. Alarcon regularly advises clients on a broad array of Swiss commercial law matters, involving contracts (sales, licensing, distribution, service, work, franchising, and JV agreements), IP rights, competition and regulatory compliance. She also advice the European HR department of many international companies on Swiss employment law, data privacy and security issues. She has also processed requests for international judicial assistance in civil matters in Switzerland and other European countries for clients involved in litigations in the US. Ms. Alarcón works with clients active in various industries, including banking and finance, pharmaceutical, nutrition products, aircraft, mining and commodities trading, new technologies, science, and telecommunications, on Swiss commercial law matters.

Ms. Alarcon is a member of several professional associations, namely the Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA), the ASA Below 40, the ICC Young Arbitrators Forum (ICC-YAF), the LCIA Young International Arbitration Group (YIAG), the International Centre for Dispute Resolution Young & International (ICDR Y&I), ArbitralWomen, the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA), the Committee on Dispute Resolution of the NYSBA, and the Ordre des Avocats de Genève.
Ms. Alarcon advises not-for-profit organizations in Geneva on a pro bono basis.
Education
Ms. Alarcon Duvanel received an LL.M. from New York University School of Law in 2003, and a Licence en Droit avec mention bien (J.D. magna cum laude equivalent) from the University of Neuchâtel in 2001.
