Michael Scheer is a partner in the firm’s New York office. Mr. Scheer concentrates his practice in intellectual property matters involving patent portfolio development, enforcement litigation, and licensing.
Mr. Scheer is a seasoned and highly accomplished lawyer and leader with two decades of intellectual property experience. Utilizing his strong legal acumen and business intellect, he works with senior management of his clients to develop strategies to vigorously protect and defend their operating businesses. His strong technical background has made him successful in negotiating numerous patent licenses related to e-commerce and the Internet for clients in banking and financial services, video gaming, retail, food and beverage, and other industries. In addition, Mr. Scheer provides intellectual property support and advice for M&A activities.
Prior to joining private practice, Mr. Scheer worked for IBM as an engineer and as an attorney. At IBM, he was selected for andcompleted the IBM Intellectual Property Training Program where he was trained to manage an IP legal department supporting multibillion dollar operating units.
Activities
Mr. Scheer is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and the New York Bar Association. Previously, he served as the secretary of the Computer Law Science Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
Mr. Scheer also volunteers with his local Parent Teacher Association, as well as his local ambulance and fire departments.
Education
Mr. Scheer received his B.S. in Physics from the State University of New York at Oneonta in 1981 and his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Clarkson University in 1983. He received his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School in 1991.
