In 2003, Winston & Strawn opened its doors in San Francisco when California firm Murphy Sheneman Julian & Rogers joined with Winston to further expand the firm's West Coast practice. Our San Francisco office, located in a landmark building in the heart of the city's financial district, made its start with a notable team of restructuring, corporate lending, private equity and commercial litigation attorneys. Through a number of significant lateral hires, Winston has quickly grown its Bay Area presence to provide legal services to clients in a number of key areas.

The San Francisco office has a prominent energy practice group which encompasses regulatory, transactional, project development and operational aspects, including conventional and renewable energy sources.

In the labor and employment area, our San Francisco attorneys represent employers clients in litigation involving wage and hour, trade secret, discrimination, and other such claims, and have a significant traditional labor practice representing energy industry clients. Our transactional practice in San Francisco has grown to include attorneys well-known in the leveraged buyouts, venture capital, corporate securities, and real estate areas.  In addition, Winston's San Francisco litigation practice recently added capabilities to assist clients in the tax controversy matters at the federal, state, and local level.

In recent news, 2008 marked a year of tremendous growth for the San Francisco office with the addition of 23 lateral attorney new hires. These attorneys enhance the firm's footprint in the litigation practice areas of insurance coverage, intellectual property, antitrust, and general real estate matters.
