Winston & Strawn’s commitment to excellence in public service has been a driving force behind the Chicago Bar Foundation’s (CBF) Investing in Justice Campaign since its inception.
Under the leadership of Chicago Office Managing Partner Linda Coberly, who served as the 2019 citywide campaign chair, CBF raised a recording-setting $1.56 million that will make possible grants and support for the work of more than 30 pro bono and legal aid organizations and related initiatives.
“Throughout its history, Winston has been a leader in implementing foundational pro bono initiatives like the Investing in Justice campaign,” Linda said. “I am proud to have led this year’s effort and to be part of a legal community – and a law firm – here in Chicago that year over year demonstrates such generosity and leadership.”
Investing in Justice launched in 2007 under the leadership of Winston Partner Kimball Anderson, who was then president of the CBF, and Winston Co-Executive Chairman Dan Webb served as citywide campaign chair in 2008. Members of our firm have contributed more than $1.15 million toward the $17.5 million raised during the 13-year history of the campaign.
“CBF is a prominent organization, and its Investing in Justice Campaign brings all aspects of the legal community together in a positive and impactful way,” Winston Senior Pro Bono Counsel Greg McConnell said. “CBF serves a truly unique role as the connective tissue between legal aid groups and the law firms like Winston that provide pro bono legal services.”
There were 150 law firms, corporate legal departments, and other law-related organizations that participated in this year’s Investing in Justice campaign, which funds a continuum of legal services for low- and middle-income people in need, ranging from web-based resources, help desks, and legal aid hotlines to market-based solutions, extended legal representation, and large-scale impact litigation and advocacy.
Pro bono is a critical component of the firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility program – Winston for Good – that aligns with our values and heritage and fosters a culture that intentionally makes an impact.
