Jeffrey Kessler Discusses Why Brown University Athletes Want Varsity Sports Reinstated on Bloomberg Radio’s Balance of Power Podcast
June 29, 2020
Winston & Strawn’s Co-Executive Chairman Jeffrey Kessler is currently representing a coalition of student athletes at Brown University in their fight to have the varsity status of their sports teams reinstated. He recently discussed the case on Bloomberg Radio’s Balance of Power Podcast.
During the interview, Jeffrey explains how the student athletes relied on the University’s false representations and material omissions that these varsity teams would continue until the very last moment, when they were advised by the University that they would no longer be permitted to compete or train at the varsity level. Jeffrey also argues that the University deliberately kept student athletes in the dark and actively proceeded as if it were “business as usual” while making repeated false representations.
“Many of these athletes were recruited athletes, they were specifically approached by the coaches and induced to come to the school and be on that varsity team. In that situation I don’t think you can pull the rug out without any notice,” Jeffrey tells Bloomberg Radio.
