Winston & Strawn Chairman Steve D’Amore was featured in The American Lawyer and Crain’s Chicago Business marking his transition into the leadership role. In the interviews, Steve discussed his new platform for the firm, Winston 3.0, which builds on the firm’s strengths in existing locations and practices.
“I feel a special importance of continuing the long history of this firm, and the direction of travel for our next generation of lawyers,” he said to The American Lawyer. “That will be my responsibility.”
He pointed to various offices including Miami, Washington, D.C., London, and Paris as markets he would like to bolster, noting the importance of having an “international mindset” as part of the firm’s growth strategy.
“I have a strong will that we do more internationally, both in terms of mindset about the way the firm operates and growth outside of the United States,” Steve told Crain’s.
Steve also noted that he wants to expand on the firm’s strengths in big-ticket litigation and transaction law and delve deeper into areas such as specialized finance, contentious regulatory and disputes-oriented work, and other specialized areas like energy and infrastructure, and crypto and digital assets.
In his interview with The American Lawyer, Steve explained his decision to establish a chair group of four partners to manage areas of the firm including internal affairs, external affairs, international affairs, and general firm strategy.
“I think the important thing to emphasize is that these are big jobs, and my belief is that one person can’t do the job in kind of the modern era when there are so many complexities and things happening at once,” Steve said. “That drives a lot of this — many hands help move things forward simultaneously.”
