Texas Lawyer Profiles New Houston Partner Michael Murphy

Leading trial lawyer Michael Murphy joined as a partner in Winston & Strawn’s Houston office on Tuesday, following the additions of Michael Blankenship and Eric Johnson to the office as partners in January. Michael spoke with Texas Lawyer to discuss why he chose to move his practice to Winston and what he’s looking forward to as he joins a new team.

Michael explained that Winston will afford him the opportunity to actively grow his energy practice in Texas. He also attributed his move to the firm’s commitment to “high-stakes litigation,” noting that while most of his clients are in the energy space, he has also worked on commercial litigation, construction, and toxic tort disputes. Michael also emphasized that he is particularly excited to reunite with Winston partner Paula Hinton, with whom he has previously worked.

A managing partner of Winston’s Houston office, said, “We have a need for top-notch litigators in the energy sector. We’ve expanded our needs based on increased demand from some of our clients.” He added that the firm continues to look for potential lateral hires in Houston, hoping to expand its capabilities in energy, M&A, labor and employment, and other specialties.
