Sanctions Environment
Blog
November 5, 2020
Presidents have long used sanctions as a foreign policy tool. One question business leaders are grappling with is how the sanctions environment will change in a Biden administration. While there will likely be some continuity with the current sanctions approach, there will also be differences, including, potentially:
- Greater collaboration with Japan and South Korea regarding China
- Partnering with the EU in a possible resumption of nuclear negotiations with Iran
- Continued focus on human rights violations and corresponding Global Magnitsky Sanctions
- A rolling back of certain restrictions on Cuba.
- An expectation of continuity on policy and sanctions relating to North Korea and Venezuela
