With the school year right around the corner, many of Winston’s local offices held backpack and school supply drives during the months of July and August in support of Winston for Good’s education pillar.
- The Charlotte office helped First Ward children get ready for the new school year, handing out book bags filled with school supplies at an event on August 24 held at Fran’s Kids Boys and Girls Club with members of the police and fire departments, city council members, and representatives from Winston education partner Carolina Metro Reds. We also gave $500 gift certificates to help two new teachers at the First Ward Creative Arts Academy buy supplies and donated 100 books from Promising Pages for their classroom libraries.
- With fall fast-approaching, 19 Winston for Good volunteers in Chicago packed 300 back-to-school kits filled with notebooks, folders, loose-leaf paper, scissors, and more. The firm donated the kits and supplies. UCAN, in partnership with Back 2 School Illinois, distributed the kits to 50 Pre-K/Head Start, 50 primary school (K-2), 75 elementary (3-6), and 125 junior/senior high (7-12) low-income, at-risk students in North Lawndale and other communities.
- In Dallas, Genesis Women’s Shelter was pleased to receive 50 backpacks filled with school supplies donated by firm members and delivered to the shelter on August 9.
- The Winston for Good team in New York held a school supply drive in July, collecting enough items to fill seven large boxes for donation to Volunteers of America in support of Operation Backpack. On August 21, 15 firm member volunteers went to Operation Backpack to fill backpacks for students in grades 1-12, restock supplies, and load backpacks into trucks destined for children in homeless and domestic violence shelters.
- The San Francisco and Silicon Valley offices partnered with Family Giving Tree to provide 29 new backpacks filled with essential, grade-appropriate school supplies for distribution to Bay Area students, many of whom qualify for the Free and Reduced Lunch Meal Program. Winston for Good volunteers went to the Family Giving Tree warehouse on July 25 to assist with assembling the backpacks.
- Through our Winston for Good program, firm members across the globe regularly volunteer their time, talent, and energy by partnering with a variety of organizations to help enhance the lives of others.
