Winston LA Raises the Education Bar for Students with Disabilities

For the second year in a row, the Learning Rights Law Center (LRLC) presented Winston’s Los Angeles office with the Valedictorian Award at the conclusion of its Raising the Bar for Education Challenge on June 28.
Winston and five other law firms participated in this friendly competition, but the real winners are the students and families served by LRLC through its mission to ensure students with disabilities receive a proper education. The six firms came through for LRLC with more than 100 hours of pro bono assistance, hundreds of school supplies, and more than $50,000 in donations.
The centerpiece of the challenge was LRLC’s Day of Action on June 4, when our Los Angeles attorneys and summer associates provided 45 hours of pro bono intake assistance for LRLC clients. Supported by the donations of 50 firm members—and spurred on by a partner’s pledge to dye his beard—Winston raised $15,000 to support LRLC’s education mission. For the last leg of the challenge, the office collected piles of pencils, pens, papers, rulers, folders, binders, books, and other school supplies for the low-income students and families served by LRLC.
This outstanding effort by our LA office is a prime example of Winston’s commitment to our core value of community service. Through our Winston for Good program, attorneys and staff across the firm regularly volunteer their time, talent, and energy by partnering with a variety of organizations to help enhance the lives of others.
