January 30, 2020
On January 7, we were pleased to welcome 24 1L students from Georgetown Law who visited our Washington, D.C. office as part of the school’s Winter Walk-Around program to learn more about litigation.
This program featured a panel presentation and Q&A discussion about Winston’s litigation practice, our Washington, D.C. office, and our summer associate program.
Panelists answered students’ questions about working at a law firm and life as a Winston associate, providing their valuable perspectives on a number of topics:
- Work-life balance is attainable/possible. You can go on vacation (and not have to work during it), you can be a working parent and have time to spend with your family, you can leave the office at a reasonable hour and have a social life, you will not have to work every weekend.
- The practice of law is rewarding. Everything you do is the most important work to somebody, for somebody, no matter how minor the task may seem.
- You control your destiny. Through the free market system, you have the power to control your career path and make sure you are involved in areas that you are interested in.
Following the formal programming, students had the opportunity to network with D.C. office attorneys while enjoying gourmet popcorn from local vendor Stella’s PopKern, a hot chocolate bar, and Winston-branded chocolate chip cookies.
Winston’s 2020 summer program is expected to run from mid-May to late July. Please visit our Law Students Careers page for more details.
