Winston & Strawn recently continued its tradition of participating in the University of Michigan Law School’s 1L Oral Advocacy Competition. Chicago office Managing Partner Linda Coberly (Michigan ’95) and Litigation Associate Ryan Dunigan gave a virtual presentation on oral advocacy tips and tricks during the 2021 kick-off seminar. Following the kick-off, Linda also joined the proceedings as a judge during the final rounds of the Oral Advocacy Competition.
According to the university’s website, the goal of the 1L Oral Advocacy Competition is to give students an opportunity to practice and hone their oral appellate advocacy skills during their first year. By providing this experience in a low-stress environment, the competition encourages 1Ls to participate even if they have no prior debate, mock trial, or public speaking experience.
