Winston’s LCLD Scholars Gather in Chicago for a Diverse 1L Roundtable

On June 15, Winston & Strawn hosted the firm’s 11 LCLD Scholars in Chicago for a full day of professional development and networking opportunities.
Winston’s annual Diverse Associate Roundtable—a highlight of the firm’s LCLD Scholars program—included:
- Off the Record: Candid Conversations – a panel discussion with Winston Partners Kobi Kennedy Brinson, Don Goff, David Sakowitz, Angela Smedley, and Jovial Wong and Winston Associates Marcus Garcia, Nasir Hussain, and DaWanna McCray
- Deconstructing Microaggressions to Foster Diversity, Equity & Inclusion – a discussion with Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer Sylvia James and Partner Angela Smedley
- Keys to Capitalizing on the Client Experience – a panel discussion with Career Development Advisor Robyn Schuster and former LCLD Scholars/current 2L summer associates Rachel Fishman, Gianna Miller, and David Phillips
- Soliciting and Acting on Feedback – a panel discussion with Partner Eric White and Associates Alan Chen, John Drosick, Vivek Krishnan, and Gianna Santoro
Following the information-packed day, the group embarked upon a Chicago River cruise featuring a docent from the Chicago Architecture Center providing the inside scoop about Chicago’s many architecturally significant buildings that rise along the river’s shoreline. The day concluded with a group dinner at Woodwind, located a few blocks from Chicago’s storied Magnificent Mile.
Winston’s 1L LCLD Scholars program also includes an opportunity to work directly with Winston clients for several weeks to gain an understanding of what it’s like to practice law in a corporate setting.
