On April 2, 2014, the United States Federal Maritime Commission announced that it has unanimously approved the G6 Alliance Agreement among American President Lines, Hapag Lloyd AG/USA, Hyundai Merchant Marine, Mitsui OSK Lines, Nippon Yusen Kaisha, and Orient Overseas Container Line effective April 4, 2014. The amendment, which will expand the alliance’s reach to encompass trade between the Far East and U.S. West Coast, and North Europe and all U.S. coasts, comes on the heels of the Commission’s recent approval of the P3 Vessel Sharing Agreement between Maersk, MSC, and CMA CGM.
