Secured Nearly US$105M Trial Victory Against Ford Motor Co.

Represent Versata Software (with co-counsel) in its litigation against Ford, which included trade secret, breach-of-contract, and patent claims, alleging Ford misappropriated Versata’s technology to create a “like-for-like” replacement, breached the parties’ licensing agreement, and infringed Versata’s patents.

After a three-week trial, we secured a remarkable jury verdict, awarding Versata approximately US$104.5M in damages. Am Law featured our team in its Litigator of the Week column for the win. Ford moved for judgment as a matter-of-law post-trial. The court denied Ford’s motion as to liability but overturned the jury’s findings on damages. Versata will appeal.
