Winston & Strawn announced the addition of Alexandra Chopin to the Washington, D.C. office, where she joined as a partner in the Litigation Department.
Alexandra focuses on high-value international commercial, tort, and regulatory disputes and investigations in the U.S. on behalf of domestic and foreign financial institutions and central banking authorities, global corporations, and foreign sovereign governments and sovereign-owned entities. An experienced trial lawyer and appellate advocate, Alexandra is recognized for her success in securing early dismissals of litigation by challenging jurisdiction under the U.S. Constitution and federal statutes with extraterritorial effect, including the Antiterrorism Act and the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act. She has litigated these issues before federal and state courts at all levels, including in the U.S. Supreme Court.
“Alexandra’s talent and skill for litigating high-value cases and investigations that span multiple U.S. and international jurisdictions make her an important strategic addition to our litigation team,” said Washington, D.C. Office Managing Partner David Rogers in the press release announcing her arrival. “She will also be a tremendous asset to the D.C. office because, after nearly two decades in practice in Washington, she knows how to create solutions by looking beyond the courts to legislative, regulatory, political, and media avenues unique to D.C.”
“My clients and I needed a firm that innately understood that the current dispute is rarely the only one from which our clients need us to protect them,” Alexandra told Law360. “Winston has a deep background in domestic and international regulatory law, corporate governance, and strategic planning, which will help my clients anticipate and resolve the agency investigations and congressional scrutiny that so often follow from litigation.”
