Anderson Center Symposium: Teaching the Next Generation of Trial Lawyers
May 19, 2023
Winston & Strawn’s Chicago office will host the Kimball R. and Karen Gatsis Anderson Center for Advocacy and Professionalism Spring 2023 Symposium on May 19, 2023.
The symposium, Teaching the Next Generation of Trial Lawyers, will explore how the legal education profession is preparing students for the modern-day demands of trial advocacy. Specifically, it will address the following questions:
- How can a trial advocacy curriculum better incorporate professionalism, diversity, equity, and inclusion?
- What role does competitive advocacy, specifically mock trial teams, play in the teaching of advocacy and professionalism?
- How can trial advocacy programs teach their teachers to ensure that students leave law school with the skills necessary to effectively try cases before judges, arbitrators, and juries?
The Anderson Center at the University of Illinois College of Law was founded by Winston partner Kimball Anderson and his wife Karen Gatsis Anderson—both University of Illinois alumni and longtime benefactors of the College of Law. The Anderson Center offers training in a wide variety of advocacy skills—including trial advocacy, appellate advocacy, negotiations, and alternative dispute resolution—in addition to providing students with innovative classes and programs relating to the professional responsibility obligations attendant to client advocacy.
