California Financial Crimes Share Forum
Seminar/CLE
February 13, 2024
On February 13, 2024, partners David Scheper and Richard Weber hosted a Financial Crimes Share Forum in Winston’s Los Angeles office, which featured special guest Tyler Hatcher, Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of IRS Criminal Investigation's Los Angeles Field Office.
SAC Hatcher appeared before approximately 15 financial institutions and more than 25 industry experts, thought leaders, and financial crime professionals and discussed the agency's important work in the anti-money laundering and Bank Secrecy Act arenas, as well as how valuable financial crime data from financial institutions has been in the investigation and enforcement of financial crimes.
Key Takeaways
- Law enforcement is extremely active in reviewing BSA reports filed by financial institutions
- IRS-CI is one of the leading federal agencies investigating financial crimes and focusing on AML/BSA violations
- Public-private sector partnerships are incredibly important and we need to ensure that law enforcement, the banks, and the regulators are working together to fight financial crime and keep our financial system safe from criminals
This event is a continuation of a series of shared forums that debuted in Winston’s New York office in October 2023, with additional forums expected to occur in the coming months.
