Checking In: Environmental Social Governance (ESG) Today

On March 15, 2023, Winston & Strawn Partner and Environmental Litigation and Enforcement Practice Chair Jonathan Brightbill taught a CLE course titled “Checking In: Environmental Social Governance (ESG) Today.”

The course provides legal, compliance, and ESG practitioners an overview of the state of Environmental Social Governance (ESG), including key focus areas and corporate developments in the supply chain, procurement, HR, diversity and inclusion, and corporate compliance. It also covers federal and state regulation and litigation updates and what's expected with Europe's new Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive.

In brief, the course discusses the evolving nature of ESG considerations. Though many stakeholders and regulators support the adoption and application of ESG programs and standards, there are legal risks to doing so. New risks continue to emerge as other government regulators and stakeholders push back on such considerations.
