Dan Webb Named The American Lawyer’s Litigator of the Week

Winston & Strawn Co-Executive Chairman Dan Webb was selected as 2021’s final Litigator of the Week by The American Lawyer.

This recognition comes after his win of a jury conviction as the Special Prosecutor in the Jussie Smollett case. For nearly two-and-a-half years, Dan has served as the special prosecutor in the case of Jussie Smollett, the actor charged with staging a hate-crime assault in downtown Chicago in January 2019 and lying to investigators about it.

Dan and the firm were brought into the case after local prosecutors abruptly dropped the initial charges against Smollett under unusual circumstances. Since being tapped for the assignment in August 2019 by the judge overseeing the case, Winston’s lawyers have put in nearly 15,000 hours looking into the earlier investigation and pursuing renewed claims against Smollett. Last week, after roughly one week of trial and nine hours of deliberations, a Chicago jury convicted Smollett on five of six disorderly conduct charges brought by Winston.
