Elkin Speaks at USC Gould’s Intellectual Property Institute
March 14, 2013
Winston & Strawn sponsored and New York managing partner Michael Elkin spoke at the USC Gould School of Law 2013 Intellectual Property Institute. The event was held March 14, 2013 in Beverly Hills, California. The Intellectual Property Institute brings together experts to analyze sophisticated topics concerning copyright, patent and trademark law.
Mr. Elkin presented "Contributory Liability and the Duty to Police Internet Content." This panel examined emerging case law and practical questions facing the practicing lawyer advising online and content businesses, including the recent Second Circuit decision in the Viacom case and the potentially conflicting recent Ninth Circuit decision in the Veoh case, the legal standards developing independently in Europe, how to advise clients on their duty to police content, and the continuing effects of the SOPA debate.
Los Angeles-based partner David Enzminger and San Francisco-based partner Jennifer Golinveaux served on the planning committee for 2013 conference.
