New Corporate Partner Craig Godshall’s move to Winston & Strawn was recently featured in Law360. Craig specializes in public and private transactions in industries from health care to utilities. He has experience in structuring domestic and international transactions on behalf of private equity fund sponsors. He also provides counsel on special purpose acquisition companies, which have become an increasingly popular vehicle for businesses seeking to go public.

Craig told Law360 that he was attracted to Winston & Strawn based on the substantial expansion of its transactions bench in recent years, which has given it the ability to take on a high volume of deals work.

“Scale does matter. Winston is actively and aggressively and intentionally building in areas that are important for my practice,” he said, noting that a bigger practice allows attorneys to have a better picture of trends in the market.

The deals market today is particularly active, presenting numerous opportunities for BigLaw corporate practices. Craig said the environment is in part a product of a “healthy rebounding economy” and “a ton of liquidity in the lending universe.”

“People are putting a lot of money to work either as lenders or private equity sponsors,” he said. “People are generally pretty enthusiastic.”
