Discussion with Renowned Local Artist, Linda Keene
We kicked off the evening with an engaging seminar led by corporate executive turned nationally recognized artist, Linda Keene, and Winston partner, chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and co-chair of the Financial Services Industry Group, Kobi Kennedy Brinson. Linda and Kobi focused on the positive mental health and healing effects of art.
Private Showing of Ernie Barnes’s iconic painting The Sugar Shack
We had a private showing and lesson about one of the most important African American paintings in modern history, The Sugar Shack. The painting is a celebrated masterpiece by North Carolina native Ernie Barnes that captures a lively night at a Black music hall in the mid-20th century. The Mint Museum is the first North Carolina museum to showcase this revered painting.
Special Guest Linda Keene
Linda’s artwork reflects images of African-American life and culture using colorful textiles as a medium. Her goal as an artist is to reflect the values of family, friendship, and community that have shaped her worldview. Linda was recently selected as one of 20 Charlotte-area artists to participate in a year-long advertising and promotion program sponsored by ArtPop CLT. She was also recently featured in a WTVI Carolina Impact news program titled Quilting Black History, Discussion with Renowned Local Artist, Linda Keene.
