Hands-on Coaching Workshop for In-House Counsel

In partnership with ACC Charlotte, Winston hosted a Hands-on Coaching Workshop for In-House Counsel, led by Diane Costigan and Jason Bennett at our Charlotte office.

Key takeaways from the discussions

The session emphasized coaching as a transformative and empowering process. Participants learned essential coaching skills, focusing on active listening, inquiry, and effective goal-setting. 

• The workshop helped corporate professionals identify and clarify their goals.
• Participants learned to pinpoint the gap between their current state and desired outcomes.
• Strategies were brainstormed to close that gap while participants received constructive feedback.
• The workshop emphasized that coaching is impactful for both personal and professional development; that coaching enhances the management of others; and that a crucial skill in coaching is helping individuals articulate their objectives clearly.

Additionally, the workshop covered the “Four Stages of Learning”:

1. Unconscious Incompetence: Unaware of your lack of knowledge.
2. Conscious Incompetence: Recognizing what you don’t know.
3. Conscious Competence: Understanding what you know and being able to apply it.
4. Unconscious Competence: Recognizing that skills become second nature; you are unaware of your proficiency.
