Health Care Reform – Compliance Challenges for 2014 & 2015
April 24, 2014
Winston & Strawn hosted an eLunch titled “Health Care Reform – Compliance Challenges for 2014 and 2015” on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 12:15 – 1:30 p.m. (Central).
2014 and 2015 are critical years for sponsors of health plans. Health care reform is moving at breakneck speed and a failure to comply can result in significant penalties and excise taxes. To effectively implement these requirements, employers need to stay up to date on the latest legal developments in this rapidly changing area.
Steve Flores, an attorney in the Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation practice group, gave a practical, interactive presentation that reviewed important compliance deadlines and areas of potential risk. The discussion examined the following areas that require immediate action:
- Updates to health plan eligibility provisions, including “pay or play” mandates and maximum waiting periods
- Plan design, including minimum essential coverage requirements
- Plan reporting and fees, including informational reporting requirements
- Enforcement, including new whistleblower protections for employees
