John Rosenthal Discusses How Law Firms Navigate AI Use with The American Lawyer

Winston & Strawn partner John Rosenthal recently discussed how law firms are navigating the use of generative artificial intelligence to streamline legal work with The American Lawyer. In a poll of the Am Law 100, The American Lawyer found that most firms do not use AI on client information, but an increasing number are using it for researching and drafting. Many firms, including Winston, await guidance from bar associations. 

“The state bars and the ABA really haven’t spoken yet,” said John. “If you look at the framework of most ethical opinions out there, they talk about cloud-based tools, but not generative AI tools. We believe the bars are going to speak and endorse the use of these technologies with these guidelines, but we’re not there yet.”
