Linda Coberly Discusses the Equal Rights Amendment on The Jabot Podcast
July 14, 2020
The fight for constitutional equality for women began before the Civil War, produced the 19th Amendment a century ago, and continues today with the continued push for the Equal Rights Amendment. As of January 2020, three-quarters of the states have ratified the ERA, satisfying the constitutional threshold for amendments. The fight now continues on two fronts—in Congress, which is currently considering a measure to remove the time limit on ratification, and in court, where advocates argue that the time limit is ineffective.
Linda Coberly, Chicago Managing Partner and Chair of the ERA Coalition’s Legal Task Force, appeared on Above the Law’s The Jabot Podcast with Kathryn Rubino to discuss the ongoing fight for the Equal Rights Amendment and Winston & Strawn’s involvement in this nationwide effort.
Linda discusses the significance of the Equal Rights Amendment, the process for ratification, and the status of the ERA today. She also shares why Winston & Strawn is supporting the ERA, as part of the firm’s longstanding focus on equity in the legal profession.
