In a Q&A with Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, Winston & Strawn partner Steve D’Amore spoke about his goals for the future of the firm in his role as the new Chair. He discussed topics including his desired growth for the firm and issues he is hoping to address in this new leadership role.
Issues that Steve highlighted as ones he hopes to address include harnessing AI and big data analysis, innovative services in the firm’s transactions, developing an elite internal trial advocacy training program, and continued growth in international arbitration. Steve noted that his vision for the future of the firm is maintaining a global mindset—what he called “internationalism”—even in stateside business dealings and that New York, the West Coast, and Europe will get his principal attention for growth.
“In New York, we’re simultaneously focused on growing the transactions business and the next generation of litigators. In the West Coast, we have three great offices, and I think Northern California is where a lot of my attention will be,” he said.
Following his transition to Chair, Steve will continue his litigation practice. He stated, “I have made it very clear that I will continue to practice. I think that’s important, and I’m going to assemble a leadership team that will also ensure that we are 100 percent focused on the business of the law firm while we each play important roles with our clients.”
