Winston & Strawn Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer Sylvia James was quoted in a Law360 article where she discussed the firm’s free virtual law school prep course. The self-paced program was designed to help provide incoming students with the tools and additional resources needed to enhance their performance in law school. It covers topics that include making constitutional arguments, analyzing legal cases, writing a law school outline, and succeeding in law school exams.
Sylvia told the publication that following the launch of the program in October 2022, the hope for this year’s earlier release is that more students will have the opportunity to access the course. “The focus is to really reach more of that targeted audience that we felt we were a little bit late for in October of last year,” she said.
More than 470 students have enrolled in the program since it began last year, with nearly half of them described as “first-generation” students. After completing the program, about two-thirds of students said they understood what success in law school would require, with only one-third reporting they felt this way before completing the course.
“I can only imagine if I had a class like this, everything wouldn't have been foreign on my first day,” Sylvia said, reflecting on her law school experience.
