Winston and Cisco Collaborate to Support Migrants in NYC
Pro Bono In Action
October 30, 2023
As part of the firm’s client partnering pro bono initiative, Winston attorneys and members of Cisco’s legal department recently teamed up to help 12 migrant families file for asylum. This pro bono collaboration continues Winston’s ongoing participation in New York City’s Asylum Application Help Center, which Mayor Eric Adams launched in response to the migrant crisis in July. More than 100,000 migrants and asylum seekers have arrived in NYC since the beginning of the year.
At the Asylum Application Help Center, which is located at the American Red Cross headquarters in midtown Manhattan, volunteers from law firms across the city help recently arrived families and individuals seeking asylum to complete and file their applications. Since June, teams of Winston attorneys have volunteered more than 10 times. The Center is open Monday through Saturday and serves approximately 150 individuals/families per day.
Members of the Winston/Cisco team who recently worked at the Help Center include Eva Cole, Daimiris Garcia, Devin Garrity, Ashley Graham, Junda He, Daniel Marzagalli, Tara Moss, Krishnan Padmanabhan, and Margaret Knox Sturtevant.
New York’s Asylum Application Help Center, which the city originally planned to operate through the summer, will now assist asylum seekers at least through the end of the year.
