Winston & Strawn Attorneys Speak and Participate at the 2024 Northern District of Texas Bench Bar Conference

On April 19, 2024, current and former Winston & Strawn attorneys participated in the 7th Annual Northern District of Texas Bench Bar Conference hosted by the Dallas and Fort Worth Chapters of the Federal Bar Association. This annual full-day CLE event was attended by over 500 federal judges, attorneys, law clerks, and law students. Attendees enjoyed panels and speakers discussing a variety of topics, including the use of demonstratives at trial, updates in IP litigation, and insights from in-house counsel, among others.

For the second year, Dallas associate Ashley Wright served as one of the event’s co-chairs, this time leading the planning committee in all aspects of the preparation and logistics from start to finish. 

Dallas partner Scott Thomas participated on the first panel of the day titled “Visual Advocacy: Strategies for Enhancing Arguments with Demonstrative Exhibits,” where he shared lessons learned from the Forest Park trial on the effective use of demonstratives to illustrate important points to the jury throughout the trial. 

Dallas partner and Head of Litigation Brett Johnson also served on a panel titled “Recent Trends and Topics in IP Litigation.” He pulled from his recent experiences in IP matters to share with attendees his thoughts on where the future of IP litigation is headed. 

Our current Winston attorneys were joined by Winston alum and former Dallas partner Matt Orwig who presented the first Fed Talk of the day titled “Learning, Teaching, and Growing Success.” Matt encouraged firms to break the formulaic approach to hiring to ensure the best and brightest talent are hired and retained and gave a call to action to attendees on the ways we all can “grow success.”

Several Winston attorneys also attended the program and enjoyed learning from the event’s speakers and networking with colleagues and judges. 

Winston also sponsored the 3rd Annual Northern District of Texas Clerkship Reunion, which took place the evening before the conference.
