Winston Attorneys Highlighted in The American Lawyer’s Litigator of the Week Column

A Winston & Strawn team was recognized for their notable win in The American Lawyer’s Litigator of the Week column on March 4, 2022.

Led by Jeffrey Kessler, the team was honored for scoring an important appellate win for client Avanci, a joint licensing platform for standard essential patents for the 2G, 3G, and 4G wireless standards. The Fifth Circuit last week turned back an antitrust challenge from Continental Automotive Systems Inc. finding that standard essential patent holders may use a platform such as Avanci to license only to end-product makers rather than component suppliers without necessarily running afoul of U.S. antitrust law. The Winston team also included antitrust technology Partners Aldo Badini and Susannah Torpey, former antitrust Partner Ian Papendick.
