New York attorneys Sam Ellison (EBEC) and Bill Sunkel (Labor & Employment) recently joined forces to review and update employee manuals for the Community League of the Heights (CLOTH), a vital community development organization that serves economically disadvantaged individuals living in Washington Heights, a neighborhood in the northern part of Manhattan.
Sam and Bill began the project by meeting with CLOTH leadership to learn about the organization and discuss how the manuals could strengthen CLOTH’s work in the Washington Heights community. They then updated the manual for CLOTH’s 44 employees and a manual for Ready Workers Management Corp., a wholly-owned subsidiary, which provides management services to CLOTH’s housing development and employs 13 full-time employees.
“Getting our employee manuals updated was extremely important to CLOTH. Sam and Bill’s experience and expertise were invaluable during the entire process. They made sure that every aspect of the manuals was compliant with current federal, state, and city laws. They were very detailed and explained everything in language we could understand. It was a pleasure working with them,” said Yvonne Stennett, Executive Director of CLOTH.
