A Chicago-based team of transactions attorneys played a pivotal role in bringing North Side Housing & Supportive Service’s (NSHSS) dream of opening a 70-bed shelter in Chicago to fruition.
For nearly one year, Winston attorneys navigated complex negotiations that allowed our client to receive a $6.6 million grant from the City of Chicago and purchase a vacant property that it will convert into a shelter for men. The new shelter will help ease the severe shortage of beds in Chicago and offer significantly enhanced privacy with its 35 semi-private rooms featuring two beds.
Following the purchase of the building, the board president of NSHSS said, “We want to express our ocean-sized gratitude to Dan Murow and Luke Johnson for their extraordinary contribution. No one else has devoted more hours to this project than Dan and Luke, other than myself.”
“We are honored to be part of NSHSS’s mission to fight homelessness in Chicago and provide a best-in-class shelter on the north side that will offer a state-of-the-art industrial kitchen, renovated bathrooms, and shower areas, and a completely new HVAC system,” said Dan Murow, Chicago partner. The new shelter is on track to open in the fall before winter weather arrives in the “Windy City.” Learn more about the new shelter and its construction here.
The Chicago team that facilitated NSHSS’s purchase of the property that will become a shelter for 70 men included Madalyn Brown Feiger, Don Goff, Luke Johnson, and Dan Murow.
