Winston transactional attorneys recently assisted Jason Church, a retired U.S. Army captain who lost both of his legs in Afghanistan, with reviewing and completing the documentation required to take possession of a new smart home, which was designed specifically for him by the Gary Sinise Foundation and its Restoring Independence and Supporting Empowerment initiative.
Jason is a third-generation veteran whose legs were severed below the knees by an IED explosion during his first deployment to Afghanistan in the summer of 2012. He was airlifted to Walter Reed and endured 20 surgeries to save his life and what remained of his legs. Today, Jason is an attorney and lives in Wisconsin.
Since 2019, Winston has helped more than 50 wounded veterans finalize their transfer transactions and take possession of their smart homes. These 100% mortgage-free homes are customized by the Gary Sinise Foundation to make day-to-day living easier for wounded veterans (Gary Sinise is the actor who portrayed Lieutenant Dan Taylor in the film Forrest Gump).
The Winston team that helped Jason close on his new smart home includes partner Bill Lang and senior paralegal Rob Libonati.
