Winston Partners Honored During the 2025 California Legal Awards

Winston & Strawn partners Laura Petroff and Jeffrey (Jeff) Steinfeld were honored during the 2025 California Legal Awards, an annual series hosted by The Recorder, ALM, and Law.com that celebrates the work and achievements of those leading technology, innovation, and the legal profession. Winners were selected by the publications’ senior editorial leaders as well as a panel of external industry experts.

 Laura was named as a Lifetime Achievement award honoree. With over 30 years of distinguished service as an employment litigator, Laura has left an indelible mark on the legal profession. She has served as the Managing Partner of Winston’s Los Angeles office, chaired the Partner Compensation Committee, and been a member of the Executive Committee. Laura co-founded the Women Rainmakers Roundtable, serves on Public Counsel’s board, and is on Denison University’s Alumni Board of Advisors, showcasing her unwavering commitment to advancing inclusion in the legal profession and supporting the legal community. Her remarkable career is characterized by her steadfast dedication to her clients, her leadership within the industry, and her commitment to pro bono work.

Jeff received the California Legal Awards’ Lawyers on the Fast Track award. Although under 40 years old, Jeff frequently secures positive outcomes for clients as lead counsel in high-profile and bet-the-company litigation. He is hailed as “a legal rock star,” and “sought out by clients for his know-how in criminal insider trading and securities fraud” cases. Clients praise Jeff’s “ability to listen carefully and work closely with his clients to provide keen problem-solving advice in high-pressure situations reflect[ing] a maturity one would typically expect from attorneys much older than him” and emphasize that “anyone seeking serious counsel who is extremely capable in a wide variety of contexts would do well to retain his services.”

The winners will be honored during an in-person award ceremony on June 25 at the Sheraton Grand in Los Angeles.
