Winston & Strawn Brussels Featured in Various Media Outlets
March 5, 2013
Winston & Strawn's recent announcement to open a Brussels office in June 2013 was featured in various media outlets, including The Lawyer, Legal Week, Global Competition Review (GCR) and Bloomberg Businessweek.
Antitrust and competition partner Peter Crowther, who will lead the firm's Brussels office, told The Lawyer that the decision to open in Brussels was due to demand from clients.
"If you have a global antitrust practice handling cartel work and corporate defence matters then clients expect you to be in Brussels," said Mr. Crowther. "To be honest you're less credible if you don't have an office there."
Mr. Crowther, who joined Winston & Strawn in 2012, told GCR he hopes to build the practice up to three partners and five or six associates within a year, but stated that the firm will grow "cautiously" and "according to client demands."
This will mark the firm's fifth European office and sixteenth overall. The Brussels practice will focus on global cartel defense and in general competition matters, including the pharmaceutical and IP sectors.
