Winston & Strawn’s $1B Jury Verdict for Monsanto Ranked No. 3 in “Top 100 Verdicts of 2012”
April 4, 2013
On August 1, 2012, Winston & Strawn's client Monsanto Co. was awarded $1 billion in a patent-infringement trial against DuPont Co. over Monsanto's patent for making Roundup Ready crops. The verdict was ranked No. 3 on The National Law Journal affiliate VerdictSearch's Top 100 Verdicts of 2012.
This "remarkable" $1 billion jury verdict earned George Lombardi, who led the team representing Monsanto, a "Litigator of the Week" honor and an "Intellectual Property MVP" recognition by Law360. Mr. Lombardi discussed the case with the National Law Journal in the article, "In No. 3 Verdict, Monsanto Scores Over Seed Patent," published March 4, 2013.
"There was a clear story here that the jury could follow about what DuPont had done in this case, about the importance of the Monsanto invention and the harm that was done through the infringement," said Mr. Lombardi.
