Winston Team Featured as Runner-Up in LOTW Column

A Winston & Strawn team led by partners Jeffrey Kessler, Johanna Rae Hudgens, and Jeanifer Parsigian was featured in the Litigator of the Week column by The Am Law Litigation Daily on September 20, 2024.

The recognition is a result of the team securing a ruling from the Ninth Circuit this week reviving antitrust claims brought on behalf of professional swimmers against World Aquatics, the international body that oversees Olympic eligibility and governs national federations such as USA Swimming. The court found that the swimmers and International Swimming League, which made a push starting in 2017 to stage its own professional swim meets, had raised triable issues concerning whether World Aquatics had arranged a “group boycott by preventing member federations and swimmers from doing business with ISL without risking draconian sanctions.” The panel also reversed the denial of a Rule 23(b)(3) class of professional swimmers who seek damages in the form of lost appearance fees and prize money for swimming events that ISL could not stage due to the alleged illegal boycott.
