A Winston & Strawn pro bono team led by partner Aldo Badini was featured in the Litigator of the Week column by The Am Law Litigation Daily on January 10, 2025.
The shout-out stems from a case in which Winston, along with a team from LatinoJustice PRLDEF, represented a class of more than 650 people who were detained by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office under ICE immigration detainer requests from July 18, 2014, through November 15, 2018. U.S. District Senior Judge William Kuntz II in Brooklyn last week granted summary judgment to the plaintiffs on their claims that Suffolk County officials violated New York law and the Fourth Amendment when they extended the detention of immigrants in custody solely on the basis of detainer requests. The decision clears the path for plaintiffs to pursue damages at trial.
The Winston & Strawn team included associates Michelle Tuma, Jennifer Kopp, Arthur Schoen, Sophie Borne, and Hector Correa Gaviria, and paralegals Karen Forte and Corinne Kyritsopoulos.
