Winston transactional attorneys recently represented New Star in its merger with Sertoma Centre, which is designed to significantly expand the services available to individuals who live with intellectual/developmental disabilities and mental illness.
By combining resources, the new nonprofit—Sertoma Star Services—will be able to create more innovative programs, improve its position for securing grants, and reduce administrative costs. It will also be able to expand its service area from the south suburbs of Chicago into northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana.
“Winston’s strong commitment to pro bono work is a win-win for everyone. Our pro bono clients benefit immensely from our legal assistance and pro bono service allows Winston attorneys to give back to the community and engage in work they are passionate about,” said Katie Mariani, Chicago M&A associate.
The Winston deal team was led by Chicago partner Matt Costigan and included M&A of counsel Eric Knickrehm and associates Dan Drobnick, Katie Mariani, and Ryan Meyer; finance associate Zach Fine; EBEC associate Charlie Filips; corporate associate Tyler Speakes; real estate associate Luke Haller; senior paralegals Susan Storiale and Sarah Rasor; and paralegal Madeline Purcell.
