International Arbitration partners Matthew Bate, Daniel Meagher, and Michael Stepek, along with two Zambian High Court Judges, recently delivered a four-day training program for 40 Zambian lawyers in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia.
The training was conducted in partnership with the International Senior Lawyers Project (ISLP) and supported the recent launch of the Lusaka International Arbitration Centre (LIAC). The LIAC operates with the support of the Zambian government and seeks to position itself as a leading arbitral institution for the administration of domestic and international arbitrations in Zambia and the wider Southern African region.
A London team of international arbitration attorneys created the training program, which covered arbitral institutional rules and how to manage issues that frequently arise in international arbitration. Case studies brought the content to life for participants and allowed them to interact and engage more fully in the training session.
While in Lusaka for the training, the Winston team visited the LIAC with the president of the Law Association of Zambia, the secretary general of the LIAC, the president of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators—Zambia Branch, and the executive director of the ISLP.
The Winston team that developed the training program included London attorneys Matthew Bate, Juliette Huard Bourgois, Tringa Kunoviku, Suzanne Labi, Daniel Meagher, Freya MacCormack, Michael Stepek, and trainee solicitor Charlotte Monroe.
