Practicing for over 30 years, Chuck has extensive experience acting as lead bank counsel, as well as borrower’s counsel, for the structuring of credit facilities, and is recognized as one of Chicago’s top banking and finance lawyers by Chambers USA.
Chuck concentrates his practice in the representation of borrowers and leading commercial and investment banks in leveraged finance transactions. His extensive experience includes acting as lead bank counsel, as well as borrower’s counsel, for the structuring of credit facilities, including: complex international lending transactions; acquisition and going-private transactions; refinancings and repricings; and restructuring and workout transactions. Chuck has represented lenders and borrowers in a variety of credit structures, including second lien and subordinated credits.
He has represented leading financial institutions such as: BMO Harris Financial; Deutsche Bank; Bank of America; American Capital Strategies; and Fifth Third Bank, as well as borrowers such as: Motorola; Lear Corporation; Federal Mogul Corporation; Groupon; Bucyrus International; Nuveen Investments; Hub International; X-Rite Incorporated; and World Kitchen. His ability to counsel clients in structuring and implementing financial arrangements is enhanced by his prior experience representing clients in merger, acquisition, and securities transactions and by his ongoing work as outside corporate counsel to several corporations.
Chuck was selected by his peers for inclusion in the 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, and 2019–2025 editions of The Best Lawyers in America® for Banking and Finance Law. He was also recognized in Chambers Global: The World’s Leading Lawyers, the 2015–2024 editions of Chambers USA, and has been named an Illinois Super Lawyer since 2007. Chuck received a B.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin in 1982 and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 1985, where he was a member of the Law Review.
