Roland possesses expertise in both common law and civil law, offering guidance and legal representation to multi-national companies, foreign sovereigns, and high-net-worth individuals in addressing national and international disputes.
Roland’s background encompasses handling complex litigations within the U.S. federal court system, investment arbitrations at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes, and commercial disputes at the International Chamber of Commerce. His diverse caseload has spanned various substantive areas, with a focus on construction and infrastructure.
Before joining Winston, Roland also served as a member of an international law firm's tax controversy practice. In this role, he advocated for high-net-worth individuals and estates during tax examinations with the Internal Revenue Service, offering counsel on international reporting requirements. Additionally, Roland maintained an active pro bono practice, concentrating on prisoners’ rights litigation.
Roland earned his J.D. from Washington & Lee University School of Law in 2018, where he was a senior articles editor for both the Washington & Lee Law Review and German Law Journal. Roland received his L.L.M. and L.L.B from Maastricht University in the Netherlands in 2012 and 2011, respectively.
