Amanda M. Stephens

Amanda Stephens is a litigation associate in Winston & Strawn’s Chicago office and has experience working on state and federal criminal cases.
Amanda rejoins Winston & Strawn after her judicial clerkship with the Hon. Sara L. Ellis of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Amanda has experience with all aspects of litigation including managing discovery, drafting motions, taking and defending depositions, preparing expert reports, and witness examinations. Amanda has also represented individuals in criminal matters, assisting them in responding to grand jury subpoenas and managing Congressional investigations.
Amanda maintains an active pro bono practice focused on civil rights and criminal pro bono matters.
Before joining the firm, Amanda was a public interest law initiative fellow for the federal defender program for the Northern District of Illinois and a law clerk for the Orleans Public Defenders where she drafted motions to suppress and motions for compassionate release.

Education
Amanda received her B.A., cum laude, in history from Northwestern University in 2017. She earned her J.D. from University of Michigan Law School in 2021, where she was an executive editor of the Michigan Journal of Race and Law.
