In recent weeks, there have been updates to the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) and the beneficial ownership information reporting rule (BOI Reporting Rule) that the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) issued pursuant to the CTA, originally scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2025, for entities that existed before January 1, 2024 (when the CTA and the BOI Reporting Rule first became effective).

What Is the Patent Trial and Appeal Board?
The Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) is a tribunal within U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The PTAB oversees trial proceedings, namely: inter partes review (IPR), post-grant review (PGR), covered business method (CBM) review, and derivation proceedings. The Board also hears appeals from adverse patentability decisions by patent examiners in original applications, reissues, and reexaminations. And, while phasing out since the passage of the America Invents Act (AIA) in 2011, the PTAB is also responsible for deciding interferences. The PTAB was previously referred to as the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences and was renamed by the AIA.

Also known as maritime cabotage laws, U.S. coastwise laws reserve U.S. domestic maritime trade to qualified U.S. registered (referred to as “U.S.-flag” vessels). These laws are also commonly referred to as the Jones Act. One of these coastwise laws, the Passenger Vessel Services Act, reserves the transportation of passengers between U.S. ports, or points, to qualified U.S.-flag vessels.
