Co-Chair of Winston & Strawn's Debt Finance Practice, Bill has extensive experience advising clients in asset-based, cash flow, leveraged, and other complex finance transactions.
Bill has extensive experience in asset-based, cash flow, leveraged, and other finance transactions, acquisition finance, related securities offerings of both equity and debt, and health care financing. In addition, he routinely represents financial institutions in workouts and restructurings, both in and out of bankruptcy.
Bill has been recognized in the 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 editions of The Legal 500 U.S. for his finance work within the commercial lending industry. He was recognized in the 2023 edition of The Best Lawyers in America® for Banking and Finance Law.
Bill serves as Co-Chair of the firm's Corporate Lending Practice, and is a member of the Corporate Opinion Committee. He is a former two-term member of the firm's Executive Committee.
Professional Affiliations:
Bill is a former member of the Executive Committee of the Commercial Finance Association, and a current member of the Board of Governors of its Education Foundation (as well as its former Campaign Chairperson). Bill was the 2014 Honoree at New York’s annual Financial Industries Dinner, and was inducted as a National Trustee in March 2016. He is a frequent speaker and writer, having appeared on Practising Law Institute (PLI), Thomson Reuters LPC Loan Conference, and other industry panels. Bill is a member of the American Bar Association and its section of Business Law, the New York State Bar Association, New York City Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, and the Chicago Bar Association.
Charitable/Civic Associations:
Bill is the former Secretary of the Yale Club of New York City and a former three-term member of its governing Council. He is the Co-Chair of the 30th reunion of his Harvard Law School class (and previously served as Co-Chair for the 20th and 25th reunions). Bill is the Vice Chair of the 35th reunion of his Yale College class (and previously served as Vice Chair of the 30th reunion). He was secretary and a member of the Board of Directors of the Fifty Vanderbilt Foundation. Bill is a Trustee of the Westminster School.

Bill received a B.A. in Economics, magna cum laude, with distinction, from Yale College in 1983 and a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1986.
