Prior to joining Winston, Sara worked as a staff attorney for a financial nonprofit organization and volunteered for a Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC).
Sara is an associate in the Tax Department of Winston & Strawn’s New York office who concentrates her practice in transactional tax matters.
Sara assists domestic and multinational clients on a variety of private equity and other transactional issues, including business formations, financing, securities offerings, Subpart F issues, fund formation and private equity investment issues. She also assists clients on private foundation and charitable organization matters, including obtaining and maintaining their tax exempt status.
Prior to joining Winston, Sara worked as a staff attorney for a financial nonprofit organization, where she represented clients in federal and state tax audits and assisted them with bankruptcy, debt collection and student loan matters. She also assisted the nonprofit through a merger with another nonprofit corporation, and acted as their Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program Director, overseeing the free preparation of more than 15,000 federal and New York state tax returns for low-income New Yorkers.
Sara was awarded the Edith C. Blum Foundation Prize for exceptional achievement in the area of taxation, and was awarded “Best Brief” at the National Moot Court Tax Competition. She was also recognized in the Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch® in America for Corporate Law (2021-2025) and Tax Law (2022-2025).
Sara is a member of the New York State Bar Association Tax Section.
Sara received a B.A. in Philosophy and Political Science from Boston University in 2002, J.D. cum laude from Brooklyn Law School in 2011, and an LL.M. in Taxation from the New York University School of Law in 2015. She was a member of the Brooklyn Law Review from 2009-2011, acting as Assistant Managing Editor from 2010-2011.
